ACHIEVEMENT RECORDS OF THE IMMEDIATE PAST RECTOR Prof. Godwin Onu.

On assumption of office as Rector of the Polytechnic on the 5th day of March, 2010 amidst multifarious challenges bedevilling the institution, the professor Godwin Onu
led administration inherited what could be described as a dilapidated institution in terms of discipline, infrastructure, staff and
students’ welfare. However, within 3-7 years of stewardship, the Polytechnic has taken very giant strides in terms of academic reinvention and programme
development, capacity building, welfare, discipline, information and communication transformation, security, health care delivery, etc especially in the areas of the road construction building, landscaping and
beautification, water supply projects and these projects run simultaneously at the three campuses of the institution.
Within the period under review FEDPOLYOKO have
been able to build an institution where students experience less stress and rigors in getting registered after admission, payment of various fees, getting accommodation, securing adequate attention of their
supervisors, applying for review of scripts in the event of doubts,
graduating within given time frame, etc. Under the watch of Prof. Godwin Onu, Fedpolyoko have built an institution equipped for competition in a globalized world, with complete information and communication technology facilities and access to knowledge base of the world; with E-education management techniques and E-learning facilities. Fedpolyoko under the watch of Prof Onu became An institution with good, strong, firm and fair leadership equipped to tackle the challenges of
discipline, cultism, capacity building, knowledge and wealth creation; transparency and re-orientation that have to a large extent changed the mindset of
parent/guardians to de-emphasizing University education in preference to technical, vocational and entrepreneurial
education. Today, Federal Polytechnic Oko ranks very high amongst the most preferred
institutions by candidates for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The administration of Onu was very successful because of the level of discipline, courage, dedication, diligence and commitment exhibited by members of the Management
Team and in a special manner, the Rector's humble drive and commitment to prudence
in financial management reflected in usage of internally generated revenue, capital allocation, interventionist grants and out
sourcing from philanthropists has been able to accomplish all the projects and programmes chronicled in this document
which is making us and the institution very proud.

STUDENTS REACTS AS FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OKO ANAMBRA BANS STUDENTS FROM KEEPING BEARDS, AFRO HAIR AND LADIES PUTTING ON TROUSER.

The management of Federal Polytechnic Oko Anambra State has issued a statement through the examination committee prohibiting its female students from wearing trousers and the male students from keeping beard, afro or grown hair during the examination.
In what seems to be move to ensure absolute compliance to directives , the School's Anti -cult unit has been mandated to prevent defaulting students from accessing the examination halls.

Reacting to the new development, a student from Department of Mass communication who identified himself as Ikenna described the move as "senseless, oppressive and uncalled for". He further described the new management of the polytechnic and in fact some of the lecturers as agents of oppression. In his words "I don't know what the new acting Rector wants to turn the school into. I don't know if they want to turn this higher institution into a secondary school? About a month ago one of the lecturers slapped the SUG president for just no cause. They even once mandated everyone to wear the school polo or departmental polo to the examination centers especially at Mass com exam center but the SUG gave it a fight"

Reacting to the issue Chidimma, an ND2 female student from Office Technology department advised that the actions of some of the lecturers and even the anti cult should be checkmated.
"Here is like a jungle were the lecturers and the anti cult are gods. A lecturers will force you to buy his half baked textbooks at exorbitant prices, some will even slap you and threaten you with carryover if you dare ask for your rights. The anti cult once you get reported to them, pounce on the student without questioning. The government should look into the abuse of power going on here."

The Students' union Government of Federal Polytechnic Oko is yet to react on the matter.
